Vanguard's Solid State Sibling
The Vanguard V4 gen2 is the mono sibling of the stereo V44S that brings Vanguard's great sound to you at an even more accessible price tag than before! After the success of the V44S, Vanguard decided to create a mono version of the same microphone (the V4) using exactly the same signal chain components, minus the second capsule. Since then, they've released the second generation with even better components and design. The V4 gen2 was designed to be your new versatile, reliable FET workhorse that destroys the normal bang for buck curve.
How It Sounds
Vanguard microphones don't try to emulate certain classic microphones, they strive for their own sonic signature. The result is a fantastic mic, open and detailed in the mids, a present but gentle top end without any harshness, and a fully extended low end that isn't exaggerated. The off axis rejection on the V4 gen2 is also smooth and neutral rather than the sharp off axis sound you get in plenty of other microphones.
With a selector for 3 different polar patterns (cardioid, figure eight, or omni) and a switchable -10/-20dB attenuator, the V4 gen2 is a fantastic versatile mic that you can use on just about anything.
Overspecced by Design
Inside the V4 gen2 is Vanguard's custom voiced, edge-terminated, 34mm dual capsule with ultra thin 3µm gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragms. This capsule is hand tuned and placed inside an open weave headbasket for a natural, open sound with minimal internal reflections. Vanguard deep-cycle cryogenically treat critical components in the signal & power paths including a hand-selected American-made ultra-high-grade FET transistor that Vanguard describe as many times more expensive than standard transistors found in most microphones at this price point. This transistor gives significant & audible improvements in audio quality, headroom, distortion, sound-stage and noise floor over standard grade JFET transistors. Audiophile grade resistors, Neutrik connectors and the cryogenic treatment give the V4 gen2 an even lower noise floor than before, staying true to Vanguards fantastic low noise reputation.
Built to a High Standard
Every unit that comes out of the Vanguard factory undergoes thorough audio and visual testing in Hatfield, Pennsylvania making sure any pair of V4s will be a close enough match to use as a stereo pair. The body is made from machined stainless steel with Vanguards signature Pinot Noir glossy finish and a polished nickel trim. Ships complete with the VLSM Heavy Duty Shock Mount, wooden storage box, and aluminium carry case.
