The Austrian Audio OC818 is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone handcrafted in Vienna around Austrian Audio's CKR12 capsule, a modern reworking of the classic CK12 design. It offers dual outputs, capturing the front and rear diaphragms separately, which opens up polar-pattern shaping after the fact rather than committing to one pattern at the point of recording, among other wirelessly adjustable settings.

The OC818 is switchable between cardioid, omnidirectional, figure-8, and hypercardioid, alongside custom programmable patterns. Paired with Austrian Audio's free PolarDesigner plug-in, the dual-output signal can be reshaped into custom polar patterns across five separate frequency bands after recording, letting you fix bleed, adjust width, or change the mic's character in the mix rather than only at the source. An optional OCR8 Bluetooth dongle adds real-time wireless control over polar pattern, pad, and high-pass filter settings from the PolarPilot app, useful for adjusting the mic without walking over to it, though switching itself stays entirely in the analogue domain, only the bias voltage is what's being remotely controlled, not the audio signal, so you get the best of both worlds.
