Royer have taken ribbon mic design in a completely different direction to the usual fragile, heavy style of classic ribbon microphones by making a mic thats lightweight, compact, and incredibly tough! The R121 can tolerate up to 135dB of SPL making it perfect for its most famous use on guitar cabinets! You can crank your amps up with R121's right up on the grille and still capture great tone without distortion or damage to the ribbon.

Natural, Smooth and Versatile

The Royer R121 is an incredibly versatile microphone thanks to its warm, realistic tone with a flat frequency response. It has a deep, full low end without any boominess, a detailed and clear midrange, and a smooth sweetness in the upper mids and highs, making it extremely versatile for use on any source. When used as a stereo matched pair, the R121's are perfect for recording stereo amps, drum overheads, room mics, piano, the list goes on! These mics will capture anything you put in front of them, capturing a natural tone without ever sounding harsh.

Two Sonic Characteristics

Like all R121s, these feature Royer's unique offset ribbon design. While they do pick up in a figure eight polar pattern, the back of the R121 is brighter than the front. This added top end bump is perfect for recording acoustic guitars, vocals, and other sources where you want that little extra top end.
