Amphion One18 Passive Two Way Studio Monitor - Single

Amphion monitors are GOBIRD's favourite! GOBIRD have used Amphion speakers paired with the Amphion Amp700 at our studio (Cordial Studios) since 2022. Amphion monitors have a perfect balance of clarity and detail without being fatiguing to your ears over long sessions. They are revealing enough to make critical mix decisions while still being beautiful to listen to for when you'd like to jam some music. The mix translation you get from Amphion monitors is great, you'll find yourself testing mixes much less on other systems because of the confidence Amphion monitors give you.

Amphion describes the One18 as the all rounder of the range and its most widely used model, they have an honest, clear, rich, and revealing sound that works across a wide variety of rooms and applications. It follows the same design principles as the rest of the lineup: a low 1600Hz crossover for point-source driver integration, a Corian waveguide for time and phase alignment, and a sealed cabinet with a rear passive radiator instead of a bass port.

Like the rest of the lineup, the One18 uses a low 1600Hz crossover point so a single driver handles most of the range where the ear is most sensitive, paired with a Corian waveguide that time-aligns the tweeter and woofer for tighter phase coherence and more precise imaging. The cabinet is sealed rather than ported, with a rear-mounted passive radiator handling low frequency extension. A passive radiator works on a similar principle to a reflex port (using a sympathetic resonance to extend bass response) but does so through a second, motor-less driver rather than a tuned air column, avoiding the turbulence and "chuffing" that ported designs can suffer from at higher volumes.

Stepping up from the One15's 5.25" woofer to a 6.5" driver, the One18 is built for larger nearfield setups where you need low-end extension and headroom. It's a common choice in professional studios, with credited users including engineers who've worked with artists like Adele, Kendrick Lamar, Olivia Rodrigo, and Rihanna.

Recording Mag's Paul Vnuk Jr. describes the One18's: “They do not have the modern ultra-bright studio monitor sound. They do not have gobs of extended room-rattling low end, nor do they have scooped, tailored or exaggerated mids.
